How Photovoltaic (PV) Works
For a residential system The PV solar panel array is installed on any southerly facing roof to maximise the power output,
The PV solar panel modules are connected in series to generate a direct current (DC).
This direct current is converted to alternating current (AC) at grid rating by the inverter. Each kWp installed in the UK will generate, on average, 800 to 900kWh. This will vary depending on orientation and location of your house.
The AC generated by your PV solar panel system is connected into the main distribution box for the building. Here it is used the same as the electricity that would have been drawn from the grid.
In times when you are producing more than you are using, any excess is fed back to the grid while in times of excess demand, this is topped up by drawing from the grid.
A Meter will show how much no cost energy has been produced by your system.
